Prostate cancer 3. Colorectal cancer Leading causes of cancer deaths in women: 1. Lung cancer 2. Breast cancer- Board exam likes to utilize this one 3. Colorectal cancer * Note that the only difference in leading causes between men and women is boobs and prostate lol- sexuality Leading Causes of Death in Adolescents Death rate for teen males is higher than for females: 1. Accidents/unintentional injuries (MVA) board likes to use this one 2. Suicide HEALTH PROMOTION/DISEASE AND DEATH PREVENTION Primary Prevention (Prevention of Disease/Injury) Primary- think PREVENTION ex: healthy diet education, building safety centers in urban areas, safety locks on guns Secondary Prevention - think SCREENING ex: any screening to detect diseases such as mammograms, prostate exams, alcoholism, depression etc (THIS IS WHY WE HAVE RECOMMENDED SCREENING) Tertiary Prevention- think TREATMENT ex: support groups for alcoholics, breast cancer, therapies, counseling Exam questions will cover the highlights above in straight forward format, these will be the some of the ones you will be able to go through. If you are unsure during the exam, ask yourself "Are they asking for primary? Secondary? or Tertriary? then look at your answers and ask yurself which is prevention before it occurs, which is a screening, which is a treatment... ROUTINE SCREENINGS- main ones to know * cervical screening is not recommended until age 21 * blood pressure screening starts for baseine in children age 3 *depression screnning starting at age 12 * Abdominal aoritc aneurysm fr those who smoke- once after age 65 by ULTRASOUND Vaccinations 1. Hepatitis B vaccine- must be 4 WEEKS between 1st and 2nd dose ****only regular VACCINATION given at birth**** 2. Influenza- which one can a pregnant patient receive? answer: Inactivated and Recombinant Influenza Vaccines (Injectable)- NO live vaccines!! 3. KNOW THAT ANYONE WITH GELATIN ALLERGY CAN NOT HAVE FLU VACCINE
