, QUESTION 1
Developing a year plan (consisting of lesson plans throughout the academic year) as
a life skills teacher is to extremely essential as it allows both aspects, teaching and
learnings, to be as effective as desired.
As a life skills teacher, planning the year ahead of time enables the teachers to walk
in the classroom everyday being fully prepared for each lesson. Without a lesson
plan, students can quickly lose focus and teachers may be left scrambling, thinking
of what to do next.
Lesson plans give teachers the opportunity to think deliberately about their choice of
lesson objectives, the types of activities that will meet these objectives, the sequence
of those activities, the materials needed, how long each activity might take, and how
students should be grouped.

Subject: Life Skills
Grade: 6
Topic: Development of the self
Sub-topic: Peer pressure
Duration: 3 hours (30 minutes for 1 period = 6 periods)
Examples of peer pressure in different situations such as school and
community. Appropriate responses to peer pressure in different situations.

How will I teach the topic of peer pressure?

First, I would ask the class a generalized question. Have your friends ever asked you
to do something that you did not want to do? Learners will then answer yes or no.

Secondly, I would ask the class how they felt when being asked to do something that
they did not want to do. At this instance I would allow learners to raise their hands
and only select a few to elaborate on how they felt. I would make sure learners are
comfortable to speak. For this I would ask them if they would want to know if I was
ever placed in a situation and how I felt. By telling them how I felt, would show them
that it is a safe space to engage. Learners would then tell the class how they felt.
Some possible responses could be that they felt cool because they were part of the
crowd, other responses could be that they felt uncomfortable.
