US HISTORY Week 3 Discussion 2Analyze the rise of our understanding of intimate partner violence? So this is something that we deal with all the time in the military. Intimate partner violence is essentially called or sometimes called domestic violence. According to our text, intimate partner violence “can be a husband or wife, an ex-husband or ex-wife, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a dating partner.” (Daigle, 2017) When you are dealing with intimate partner violence it includes sexual, physical and or emotional abuse. It can also include stalking or sexual coercion by a former partner or a current one. Sometimes it an arduous situation to process when wives come in and say their husband or their significant other raped them, however, we actually get this a lot. So there are physical acts with are hitting, slapping or beating their spouse. Then there is the emotional side of it where you have insults, constant humiliation, belittling, and threats. Once they report it, they immediately try to stop the progressive of the case. According to our text, “victims more often wished to withdraw the charges when the perpetrator was an intimate parter.” (Davis, Lurigio & Herman, 2013) What are some common risk factors associated with intimate partner violence?
