Introduction

In this assignment I would be identifying how two organization plan recruitment using internal and
external sources. I would analyze the different type of mechanisms they use to recruit internally
and what external sources they use in their recruitment process. The two organizations I would be
using for research is Tesco and M&S. In this assignment I will look at the actual job that we can do
after leaving the college. Therefore, I will look at Trainee marketing assistant of Tesco.

Tesco

Tesco PLC is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer headquartered in
Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom. Recently Tesco decided to close 43 stores
despite better Christmas sales. It will close 43 unprofitable stores across the UK - more than half of
which will be local convenience shops, known as Tesco Express. Additionally, Tesco is closing its
staff pension scheme, will make cuts of £250m, and reduce overheads by 30%.

However, the supermarket chain announced it would be dropping plans to build 49 "very large
stores; including a £65m supermarket on the former Royal Hospital site in All Saints,
Wolverhampton. Therefore, Shares in Tesco rose by more than 13% on 8th January 2015, as
investors welcomed the company's announcements. Their performance as a business has fallen
significantly short of where they would want it to be and their absolute imperative has to be to
protect the future of their business for the 300,000 colleagues Tesco will employ in communities all
over the UK.

Vision of Tesco

Tesco’s aims are established, functional areas within a business then devise department-based
strategies to ensure goals are achieved. The vision drives the business and the values are
embedded throughout the strategic planning process.

Whilst a vision outlines the aspirations of senior managers, a mission statement is a general
expression of the overall purpose of the business. It communicates the goals of a company to all
stakeholders. The vision should inspire all stakeholders and motivate employees towards achieving
its stated objectives. If well prepared, it should convince customers, suppliers and external
stakeholders of its sincerity and commitment to them.

Tesco’s management recognize the key role that its mission, vision and strategies play in its success
and use a range of key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate its performance.
These are explored in detail later in the case.

Recruiting

Recruiting a new candidate into a new job role such as Trainee marketing assistant consists of
different stages in order for finding the perfect person who is able to work in the field. The first step
