Unit 5 – Business Accounting
On completion of this unit I should:
1) Understand the purpose of accounting and the categorisation of business income and expenditure.
2) Be able to prepare a cash flow forecast.
3) Be able to prepare profit and loss accounts and balance sheet.
4) Be able to review business performance using simple ration analysis.
Task 1:
a) Describe the purpose of accounting for an organisation.
Virgin Enterprise is a local organisation that promotes enterprise in young people and offers
support and help to new entrepreneurs. It has recently launched a new scheme called ‘’YESUCAN’’,
a 16 week programme aimed at encouraging and helping 16-25 year olds to set up in business.
As an Accounting Technician with AAT qualification, I have been involved along as a guest
speaker to give a presentation on the purpose of accounting.
I have to produce a Memo/Leaflet to support my presentation and to help my audience (the budding
entrepreneurs) in understanding the purpose and importance of accounting in business.
