Business information issues
The importance of business communications should be obvious throughout every area of a
business. When a business is known for dealing and communicating honestly with all people,
from its employees and customers to shareholders and vendors, it is often more likely to
become successful. While legality and ethics of business communications is a subjective
topic that may mean different things to different people, it's still very important in all types of
corporate settings.

TESCO PLC, like any other established business knows the true value of honest corporate
communication methods, which can create the business image for large audiences for a long
time, as a result affecting business reputation indirectly.

Legal issues
 Data Protection Act 1998: was put in place to protect information held about people
from being misused. Many business store information about people whether it’s for
potential customers or previous clients. This information stored on businesses’
databases need to be obtained fairly and lawfully, it is must only be used for the
purposes stated during collection, it also must be accurate and up to date, not kept for
longer than necessary, processed in line with human rights, subject to procedures to
prevent unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction and damage to personal data.
TESCO PLC holds information on its employees and in doing so the company must
follow the requirements of the 1998 Data Protection Act. This means that data held
about employees must only be used for specific purposes that are allowed by the Act.
The rules regarding personal data also apply to any other stakeholders’ TESCO deals
with.
Penalties: possible loss of business and brand damage, financeial fine up to £500,000,
prison sentences.

 Computer Misuse Act 1990: this Act was set up in the UK to stops certain activities
from happening on a computer, such as hacking, misuse of software or helping
another to gain access to protected files and accounts.
TESCO PLC, its personnel and its stakeholders must comply with the Computer
Misuse Act, which details certain illegal activities, including:
1. Knowingly using another person’s username or password without proper
authority
2. Impersonating another person using email, online chat, web or other services
3. Misusing authorised access
4. Using, or helping another person to use, someone else’s system for criminal
activities
5. Modifying software or files so as to interfere with the system’s operation or to
prevent access to or destroy data
