PHI445 Week5 Week 5 Assignment NAME PHI 445 Ashford University Teacher: Larry Baker DATE   Final Paper As I came up on this final week, I thought about all the things that have been taken place. One thing that I know for sure is that when you have morals, the way you think about others or feel, do not matter. Discrimination is real. What’s worst, is that all the people who are going through this are too afraid to fight for their rights. As of 1964, the laws that have been enforced based off discrimination. This means race, color, religion, sex or national origin. So, this means, no matter who you are, you still matter. Even if you must fight for it a little. Therefore, I took out time to even choose this topic. I don’t think how things went on with Lily Ledbetter and Goodyear tire. She had every right to do what she did. All because of her, Jan 29, 2009 Ledbetter act was founded by the congress. It makes you stop and say, what is wrong with the world that we live in today? It saddens me. I am a mother of two. The last thing I want to do, is go to a job that I know is not paying me the right. Prejudice has been around for years. From the look of it, it’s not changing anytime soon. In a normal world, we would love to work without having to deal with issues of their race, age or religion. This goes for all the older people who work but are being look down on because of their age. With the help of( McCray 1987) this will help a whole lot of things that need to be fixed for people with a little more age to them. Not saying that they will be put on a pedestal. However, they will be able to perform to their full strengths. It was not until 1990 till people with any kind of disabilities had to show proof so they can know, just what the person will be able to do. By doing this, you are giving people the chance to get a job as well as well and be treated as equal, having the same privilege as the rest of the younger able bodies. So, as I started writing this paper, I said to myself, how can I write a paper that details all the things that are taken place in the world of discrimination without having to sound like I am saying the something repeatedly. The case of LGBT communities they have the hardest time sometime trying to find a place of employment without having to be looked at funny or told they ought to be ashamed of themselves. In 1982 there was a lady name Ann Hopkins. She was at the top of her job a senior officer at Price water house. She was a good worker however, she was not let’s just say liked at her job. When I came time for them to give her what she was owed. They went on to make remarks about her feminine ways say” next year walk more lady like” even went as far as saying wear makeup as well as dress like one. With all that was taken place it was best that she went on head and sued them for sex discrimination. This is where it got tricky at because they wanted to hire a woman, but why hire one to make them feel less of themselves. I give an example of Ann to prove my point of the LGBT community. Ann was not a part of this community. Given the facts that had happen to her, this opened doors to the transgender, gays open doors for them to use this however only when it is being used on them in the workplace. Meaning judging a book by its cover can cause you to be sitting in a courtroom with all because of sex disclination act. Who wants to come to work or any place and feel like they are discriminate on!?! I know I would not like it at all. AS I continue to try and prove my case, I will be talking about all the different types of discrimination that is happening all over the world we live in today. Just because it doesn’t happen at every work place, does not mean exist. All the laws that have been put into place, help this world of confusion go around. Sometimes it’s when we get caught, that we know, what we are doing is wrong. Why not stop, before it’s too late. Lilly Ledbetter only wanted her equal pay for all the hard work that was put in through the years. Was it wrong to ask for it? Or was she just supposed to take it all because of her sex? There would not be laws, if things were not broken or out of place. Then you have the student Adam Noska who was given a $250.00 for “whites only” given by the college republicans at Rogers Williams University. Even though this was a prank, it started a big controversy. The sad part about it is, that the person who came up with the idea was of a lower class himself. Coming across the different stories and problems that took place, it’s no reason why people sued, and they didn’t leave empty handed. Lily took a stand, even if the company did decide to file a claim back. As of 1963 woman are entitle to equal pay. When it comes to 180-day laws, I think it all is a bunch of candy! Why take so long to see if I am going to do something you can tell within a couple of days if I am going to do it or not. All the examples of the people I have given you. Have all been a part of discrimination of some sort. We as the “People” should be able to go to work and feel good about what they do for a living. Telling or not telling, if it happens never be afraid to stand up and be ready to act if need be. You have the Muslim lady whom was denied work at the clothing store. This was totally not right forming any stand point. The reason I say it’s wrong because from one, you don’t respect her as a person or her beliefs. A long with this supposed to come morals as well. If you don’t want it done to you, don’t do it to them. Since the 1970s the supreme court has heard over several affirmative actions some have been made permitted under the U.S Constitution while some are not. For me, this tells me that everything take time, but change is indexable. If the laws and rules keep changing for the better, then that is a good thing. It takes a strong person to stand up and do the right thing, even if you may lose a couple of people along the way. That just meant they were never meant to be around from the beginning. Discrimination is just what it is. I have been in a situation at work, where my boss was trying to come on to me. He was a Doctor at the hospital I worked at in the E.R. At first, I was afraid to tell. I thought I was going to be looked at in another light, which could be very deem to my fellow cooks. One day, he decided to try and touch me. I leaned back, told him to never do it again! And went to the don of the hospital. It was later told by other of my coworkers he was doing the something to them as well. They made him end his contract with the hospital and told him to leave and never come back. After this, weeks later I was let go because of a policy. Followed by the other woman whom hold on him as well. They bring him back, all for him to now have the hospital under a lawsuit because he was touching a patient in all the wrong places. He was wanted for questioning. He turns himself in and they ended up booking him on charges. Had I not told, the others would have not told either. I feel good now knowing I said something. It’s my body. If I let him keep doing it, in my mind, that’s rape. I feel like you are trying to take something that has not been given to you. I Learned this pass couple of weeks how to get to know a person before you just draw your own preconceive notion. Because once you open that door to discrimination it’s there to stay. We all come from different parks or walks of life. But if everybody was the same then there would not be a need for it would it. Being diverse is what makes all of who we are.
