POLI 330N Week 6 CO Assessment | VERIFIED AND GRADED. Questions 1. (TCO 7) What is your final plan to present to the president? What changes did you decide to implement? This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :20:21 GMT -06:00 What have presented below is my final plan to present to the President regarding budget adjustments from different departments. From the department of Domestic the Programs and Foreign Aid, I suggest that $17 billion for foreign aid be cut in half. The national department for Military I suggest that a total of $25 billion be taken to reduce military to pre-Iraq War size and further reduce troops in Asia and Europe. In the department of Existing Taxes I suggest a total of $100 billion be implemented. $50 billion from return the estate tax to Clinton-era levels: Those passing on an estate worth more than $1 million to their heirs would have portions of those estates taxed. The other $50 billion from Payroll tax increase for high earners: Those making over the current ceiling of $106,000 would have to contribute more to Social Security and Medicare. Finally in the department of New Taxes an implementation of $163 billion dollar cut be made. $50 billion from Millionaire's tax on income above $1 million. Another $40 billion on carbon tax. Carbon tax is the option that would tax carbon emissions, which scientists believe contribute to global warming. The last cut would be $73 billion from bank tax. Bank tax is the tax that would tax banks based on their sizes and the amount of risk they take. This would approximately be a $305 billion dollar budget cut to our national departments. 2. (TCO 7) Please explain why you chose the options that you did. I chose to make a budget cut from the follow departments for a few reasons. With the department of foreign aid, cutting the budget in half seems reasonable so that our country can provide money, food, and other resources to the people but also still provide some support to the other countries we help. Reducing military to preIraq War size and further reduce troops in Asia and Europe would be a beneficial move for our country. Our problems in Iraq have seemed to simmer down that I do not think we need the amount of troops over there. Also Europe has not been a threat so I again do not see a reason to have our men over there. By returning the estate tax to the Clinton-era I feel we can build additional income. Increasing payroll taxes for higher earners will guarantee that they give back in order to help the nation grow. I do not think the carbon tax will create more income for the country, but I feel that making this cut will help to reduce environmental hazards like global warming. Lastly, banks are risk takers and responsible for a lot of financial situations that I feel like making this cut will help them to be held accountable and assist with our economy.
