Community development efforts by local communities to solve their economic problems by
developing or setting up enterprises that provide goods and services
How communities benefit from local business?
Creates jobs – new jobs are created along with developing peoples skills. Reducing
emigration
Wealth creation – the money earned in the community will be spent there also. This also
creates new entrepreneurs in the local area
Standard of living – the quality of life will improve for everyone in the area. Enterprise and
economic activity can result in improved services to the local community, such as postal
services, sewage system, recreational facilities, etc.
Development – area itself will benefit from this. There will be a need for more housing,
banks, hotels, shops, etc.
Tax revenue – tax (VAT income and corporation) will increase with the enterprise. This
allows more money to be spent on the provision of improved public services in the area
such as hospitals, schools, libraries, roads, etc.
