Drawing on the readings and articles you have analyzed, differentiate between basic and applied research providing advantages and disadvantages of both. Before analyzing and differentiating between basic and applied research we must define them. Basic research is defined as driven by a scientist’s curiosity or interest in a scientific question (Check & Schutt, 2012). This type of research wants to increase current knowledge. Basic research is theoretical. The main purpose of basic research is to develop scientific knowledge and prediction. The fundamental goal of basic research is enhancing already existing concepts. This research focuses on trying to foresee future phenomena and is motivated by curiosity. It is interested in the enhancement of knowledge. It is intended to answer why, what, or how questions and increase understanding of fundamental principles (Check & Schutt, 2012).
