Course Project - EPIC Literature
Review Professor Richardson
What are the key points of agreement among the sources?
This initiative is massive in scope, but it represents an immense potential to simplify and standardize care throughout the whole healthcare system by identifying and implementing it in all relevant areas. An integrated system offers actual and evident benefits in terms of consistency
and quality of patient care by exchanging information, minimizing redundancy of probes, and improving communication among clinicians as well as between providers and patients.
What are the key points of disagreement among the sources, we immediately jump to the negative when we speak of disagreements among our sources? More than two or three proponents of EPIC agreed that it took so many personnel to do the time-
consuming process of tracking a patient's tests, exam findings, prescriptions, etc. that had to be administered and documented, that 90 percent of the documentation was overtaken by a computer, able to sort this in a more streamlined manner and get us ready for the future of medicine.
Do any of the sources appear to be outliers? In other words, are there any sources that bring up issues, or make assertions, that the other sources do not discuss?
Which sources appear to be the most powerful or influential? I believe that the research shows
the leader in EPIC use and platforms would be John Hopkins Hospitals and medical facilities. The plans are in place to integrate Epic into private practices in the community over the next decade, using one of three systems:
•Epic Community Connect: uses Epic as the official electronic health record (EHR)
•Epic Care Link: reviews the e-chart; has some interaction
•Health Information Exchange option (CRISP)
John Hopkins Hospital was the starting place for EPIC and continues to involve itself in the midst of new and innovative healthcare system processing. The new EMR programs are taking the medical community by storm and are also being employed by the likes of the companies listed in the graph below.
