ENG2601 ASSIGNMENT 3 2022. Applied English Language Studies: Further Explorations. Texts C is analysed to outline how the purpose of the text is achieved through structure, audience, tone and style. Texts are written with a specific purpose in mind which may be to provide entertainment, offer information, persuade, or describe something, for example. To achieve the purpose, the author will use a specific style and tone to achieve the intended meaning or message of the text. The purpose of text is also linked to the target audience thereof. For example, texts targeted at teenagers will make use of informal language which contains slang or popular language terms which is understood by the audience and identified with. The diction used in texts include the choice of words, the type of language, and the register. Style of texts are determined by the use of the language and language devices applied in the text such as tone, allusion, personification, imagery, and puns, for example. Text C will be analysed to understand how the structure, audience, tone and style are applied to achieve the purpose thereof.
