What are business functions?
Business functions are activities that are carried out by the organisation and
are managed by a set of management teams. Business functions also ensure
that an organization runs smoothly and works well for its customers,
employees, managers, and shareholders.
Most organizations have three management levels, low level managers, Middle
level managers and top-level managers.
Organizational structure for Dyson:
Dyson has flat organization structure has few levels of management between
the workforce and the highest-level managers. The absence of the middle
managers places more authority, such as decision-making functions at the
worker level.

A matrix structure is where an individual can move from one project to
another. It keeps open communication between teams and can help create
more innovative products.

Finance is a term for management and investment. It is how individuals and
businesses earn money and use or invest that money. Finance interacts with
other business functions such as logistics, operations and manufacturing, the
money needs to well invested in so the business is successful. Dyson in 2020
said he will invest an additional $3.67billion into new technologies and
products over the next five years.
Logistic
Logistics refers to the overall process of managing how resources are collected,
stored, and transported to their final destination. Logistics management
involves identifying potential distributors and suppliers and determining their
efficiency and accessibility. As most of Dyson products are manufactured and
produced in Asian countries they need to be transported to customers.
Research & Development
It is an activity that companies undertake to develop new products, processes,
or services or to improve existing ones, processes, or services. To do this,
companies often take risks. Indeed, there is uncertainty about whether what
they are trying to do is technologically possible, or more commonly, they do
not know how they will achieve their goal in real terms.
Marketing and sales
Marketing and sales are two different business functions, Marketing is all
about making your organisation and brand known to potential customers.
Sales turns the potential customers into profit, by converting these leads into
actual customers. Sale is a department that is very crucial for the growth of a
business especially Dyson. Sale department is almost like a bridge connecting
the business to the customer.
