1. Choice- choice gives individuals control over their lives and increases their self
– esteem because it promotes independence. In a residential care home, choice
can be whether or not to join in activities, choosing what to wear and which
TV programme to watch. In health care an individual has the right to go to
the GP of their choice. People with sensory impairment should be able to
choose whether they live in a supported environment or independently with
support tailored to their needs.
