Spain and the Tourism Industry

Tourism is the temporary movement of people to different destinations to their actual living
place, it is called an industry because it is not only entertaining the public but giving
employment to a large number of people. In Spain it has become the sector that contributes
the most wealth to the Spanish economy, with a total of 176.000 millions of euros. It is a
sector that nearly everyone can enjoy and can find useful for learning, relaxing, and having fun
… Tourism industry in Spain is amazingly strong as many families depend on it due to their
jobs, and it also helps the economy to go up meaning it is one of the main factors that makes
Spain so brilliant as a country. Spain's tourism has some strengths, weaknesses, opportunities
and threats:

Spain's tourism industry has loads of things that make the country astounding for foreign
people. Firstly, Spain has really attractive places such as beaches and mountains, that look or
seem different to other countries due to the comfortable weather conditions and the
atmosphere there is in Spain. Also, the high historical and cultural diversity really makes the
country special as people can choose the types of vacations or tourism they want to do. Spain
has a high biodiversity that can help many people to cure, this means there is a type of tourism
focused on human health. The tourist market that attracts visitors to particular locations is
thought as a hook for people all over the world. In addition, Spain is an internationally
recognized standard for accommodation and has easy access from European countries so the
tourism industry in Spain is really prepared for tourists and it gives a secure feeling for the
visitors.

However, Spain's tourism industry has some weaknesses. The one that can be seen as horrible
from both the tourist and the local view is the insufficient infrastructure some cities suffer.
Jaen is one of the cities in Spain that have poor and lack of roads causing it to have poor
displacements and poor tourism. The second weakness affects the tourists, it is called the
‘busy season’ and it is a number of months in which the hotels, the restaurants, shops are full
and normally of visitors. This occurs because there is a special party, for example; in Córdoba,
May is called the busy season because it is full due to the different parties that take place in
the city such as the fair, the ‘patios’ or the ‘cruces’. The busy season is always seen badly from
the tourists’ view because everything is full and the prices go up, however the local people like
it as it allows the economy to rise as people consume more making shoppers sell more. There
are two more disadvantages of our tourism industry that is about, the different dialects people
speak in Spain making thousands of tourists confuse themselves, this happens for example in
Cataluña. The other disadvantage has a positive and negative side and both of them really
affects local people as it is about the seasonal jobs created for the tourism industry, it is a
positive things as it creates jobs making our country richer as the economy increases however
it makes many people suffer as their lives depends it the tourist and normally if the busy
season goes well or not.

Spain's tourism industry gives many opportunities for new markets that sell touristic products
as many tourists always want something that reminds them they visited Spain, the new
markets focus on this, use the law ‘supply and demand’, this helps them to start a market
without crashing. It also gives opportunities for various types of holidays, including the type of
landscapes such as rural or industrial that allows it to participate in international tourism
events that drastically affects the economy.
