,INTRODUCTION
• This assignment focuses on the internet and how to operates as well as
it is helpful in the day to day running of businesses. The businesses bein
used in this assignment are Marks and Spencer's and Barclays Bank.
,WHAT IS THE INTERNET? HOW DOES
IT OPERATE?
• The internet is a global structure of interconnected (unified) computer
networks that use the Internet Protocol Suite ( rules that computer syste
have to follow so that the transmission of data can function) to link devi
worldwide. These networks consist of private, public, academic, busines
and government networks of local and international/global ranges.
• The internet operates by using a variety of different protocols which out
different codes that work together to connect different networks and all
for the transmission of this data to the person who has requested it.
, WORLD WIDE WEB? WHEN DID IT
START?
• The World Wide Web or WWW or The Web is an information
system where documents and web resources are identified
by Uniform Resource Locators (web addresses), which may
be interlinked by hypertext (text displayed on an electronic
device with references) and are accessible over the
Internet. The resources of the World Wide Web may be Tim Berner
Lee
accessed by users by a software application called a web
browser.
• English Scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented internet in 1989.
He then wrote the first web browser in 1990 while
employed at European Organization for Nuclear Research
near Geneva, Switzerland which was then released to the
public in 1991, first to research institutions in January and World Wide
the public in August.
