Unit 4 P1
Introduction
Communication is a way in which people get their message across to one and
other. There are several different types of communication methods these are
verbal, written, multimedia, web based and on screen. In this piece of work I will
be going through all of these various communication methods. Communication is
really important in business as it can help build a team and make a business
successful. Its employees communicate correctly so there’s no misunderstanding
within the work place as this could cause confusion within the business. A larger
business like Apple will have several departments which means that clear and
effective communication is vital.
Verbal
Verbal communication is usually a face to face communication but can also be
over the phone, this is a better way to communicate as you can resolve issues
quicker as you are in contact with the person. Verbal communication is using
your voice to communicate with another person. Havering Sixth Form is
communicating verbally all the time, examples of these are when a teacher is
explaining the work to a student in class, parents evening, assemblies and
interviews. Assembly is a good way to get information to a large group of
students without having to waste time to make letters or phone calls to
individuals to discuss topics. In an assembly a head of year or even subject
teachers will discuss several things like lateness to lesson, report cards being
given out soon or a trip which the students need to be informed of. The
information will mainly come from the subject teachers about grades etc.
Another time that verbal communication is used to deliver information is at
parents evening, where the teacher informs the parent of the student about how
well they are getting on in class and whether they are achieving the right grades
or working hard enough.
Written
Written communication is usually a formal way of communicating. Letters and
emails are usually the main source of written communication. Havering Sixth
Form use letters to communicate with students but mainly with the parents/
guardians of the students. These method of communication is formal and does
help with giving out information like reports, attendance charts or an important
piece of information that needs to be told to the parents/guardians. This
information will come from several sources like subject teachers, head teachers
and computer systems. If parents have a concern they would contact the school
back by telephone or email which you would find at the bottom of the letter you
receive from the school. An email is also another type of written communication,
this is used in the college when teachers need to deliver important notices to
students about assignments or important information or to other staff members.
Multi-Media
Teachers also use their computers to draw up a lesson plan and they usually
most of the time now teach of the computer as they would have a projector on
the big screen where all students will be able to see, this is a valuable way of
teaching lessons instead of using paper or just talking to the class. PowerPoint
