Then a look at how gender has an affect on media and whether it is possitve or negative, an advertisement will be chosen and analysed. An investigation into the problems journalists face by looking at the travel programme “Wild Earth” Finally an explanation on why media education is important in the school curriculum. 2. MEDIA POLICY 2.1. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL MEDIA REGULATION 2.1.1. Film and publication amendment bill [174 Words] The Bill is there to regulate the distrubution of films, games and media and to ensure that certain standards are being met and maintained. It sets out all of the standards for media from games to publications and helps to maintain a more appropriate and reliable standard. The Bill is there to protect people and avoid exposing people to sensetive content . The bill is also there to ensure that all media is classified and that the correct restrictions were put in place. I feel as though it is also set in place to avoide things such as propoganda and any form of descrimination, e.g. sexism. Internal regulations refers to the regulations set in place while formulating the form of media, it is the codes and rules set by media organisations. External regulation refer to actual laws and regulations, which are set by the government and outside of just media organisations. Therefore the bill can be classified as external as it was set outside the media organisations by the government and is actual laws (Fourie 2008;31). 2.1.2. Freedom of expression [346 words] Freedom of expresion is a term that is heard a lot, especially in relation to media, but what does it actually entail? This essay will be addressing that as well as how it actually affects media and why the bill actually enhances freedom of expression. Freedom of expression looks at how much influence the media has on society and the effect of that influence. The more influence that the media is seen to have will, therefore, have a hire impact on society (Fourie 2008;34). When the influence is high it can be used in an incorrect way, for example, for propoganda. I believe that with every right comes responsibility. Therefore I feel that we have the right to freedom of expression but we also have a responsibility to respect others for theres and not use it to discriminate or abuse others and I believe that that is what the bill allows for. I believe it gives freedom but creates limits to it to allow for it to be fair and none offensive. The limitations include no external censorship; it should be easily accessible without a licence or permit; attacks on government or political parties should not be punishable; there should be no force to publish anything, no restrictions should be in place for the aquasition of information done in legal ways. While the fact that there are limitations are set in place may feel as though freedom is being taken away, these limitations seem to bring more freedom than anything else. Freedom of expression is important as we should all be allowed to express ourselves freely but there should still be structure to control this so it is not abused (Fourie 2008;34). Limitations are set in place to prevent us from crossing lines and allows us to receive all of the necessary information that is needed to make informed decisions (Fourie 2008;34). It allows us to be aware of exactly what is going on arround us. Would you say the bill is in the interest of the public? Because I definitely would say
