Ameer Ansar
Unit 22: Assignment 2 business requirements specification and e-
card system design
System analysis and design
Learning outcome B

Introduction
In a previous assignment I talked about different software development models and their different
advantages and disadvantages. After going through all the different models, I have decided that for
this E-card system the waterfall model will be used. This will be used because the waterfall models
allow for a simple and easily understandable layout to follow which will be perfect for creating this
E-card system. If this layout is followed accordingly and correctly than the software being created
will be easier to manage and complete over the course of creating the software.

Evaluate the computing and business needs of Cartes
de mode
Right now, the system isn’t able to cater for all the customer needs which creates a massive
problem. The business needs are to improve their current system so that they can reach their goals
as well as catering for the customer needs.

The aims and requirements of Cartes De Mode, and how IT is used to
support these:
They have 2 printers and an administrator working to ensure that the personalised cards are created
within 24 hours of the customer's order. However, with due time and an increase in customer orders
hopefully this is upgraded.

The services Cartes De Mode provides
At the moment Cartes De Mode allows customers to order a small range of greeting cards which are
posted to the given address. These cards are not custom made however they are premade by the
card designers and posted online for customers to order and deliver somewhere. Currently the
system doesn’t allow customers to create their own custom and personalised cards however the
system is expected to be upgraded.

Aims and goals of Cartes De Mode
The main upgrade for the current E-card system, is to improve it to allow customers to create more
customer, personalised, meaningful cards and have them sent to whoever they want. As well have a
lot more built-in functions like creating a diary to record events like birthdays or automatic
reminders. In addition to this with all these improvements being made towards the current system
the company aims to have the largest market share in the online greeting cards market. The system
will be similar to moonpig.com but better and the business aims for it to become much larger. In
addition to this there may also be an increase in service time where cards are delivered quicker than
expected which will definitely make them stand out from their competitors.

, Customers
Customers are expected to have their cards delivered to them within 24 hours of ordering the card.
In addition to this there will be a certain expectation to send their own card depending on if there is
a certain event happening and the current system doesn’t have that even on their online card
selection. They will be a bit disappointed because the system isn’t meeting their needs. So, with the
coming updates and improvements their expectations should remain the same being that the card is
delivered within 24 hours. Also, with these improvements' customer needs will also be met.
However, with all the improvements being made and imputed the layout and system should also be
user friendly so that all types of users with any kind of disabilities can use the system without
experiencing any sort of trouble.

Staff/location

There are 2 main buildings being used for this business. Cartes De Mode’s head office is found in
London however the printing centre is in oxford. The administrator as well as three other staff
members are in the printing centre and their main jobs are to print out the customer’s orders and
have them delivered to the given address. The remaining 6 staff members are based in the head
office and they do a number of various jobs like marketing handling finances and designing the
cards. These staff members all need a desktop each and some require special software for designing
the cards or even completing complicated mathematical equations. In addition to this they will be
expected to work at any time of day to ensure that the customer orders are completed and sent of
within the 24 hours of ordering.
