Good teaching is no longer about helping learners to accumulate knowledge that is
passed on to them by the teacher; it is about helping learners to make sense of new
information (no matter what its source), to integrate new information with their existing
ideas, to be aware of their thinking and learning processes and to apply their new
understandings in meaningful and relevant ways.
Good teaching entails the desire to share your love of the subject with the students, a
capacity to explain the material plainly, a facility for engaging with the students at their
level of understanding and an ability to make the material being taught stimulating and
interesting. Good teaching is as much about passion as it is about reason. It’s about
