C427 Technology Applications in Healthcare Performance Assessment Guide 2021/2022 A1. Create a planning, organizing, directing, controlling (PODC) HIPAA training model by doing the following: Planning: Our hospital’s focus is to exhibit a HIPAA compliant environment and maintain the protection of patient privacy and security. Therefore, all employees, both new and existing will be trained on the hospitals newly implemented HIPAA Privacy and Security Policy. New hires will receive training during new hire orientation and existing employees will receive training annually. Organizing: The director of support services will coordinate both online and classroom trainings as well as the training materials. The director of support services will collaborate with HR to make sure all employees have the necessary, updated, and most accurate credentials to access the web-based training via the hospital’s employee intranet. Directing: Training is scenario based. Employees will engage in activities and answer questions on the process of reporting and identifying HIPAA violations using their online and/or hardcopy resources. Training will also include the Office of Compliance contact hotline number, email address, and name of the CIO as well as all other departments regarding violations, fraud, and misuse of pertinent information. Controlling: The training application will launch after the employee selects and enrolls in the current year HIPAA Privacy and Security Training course located online in the employee learning development section of the hospital’s employee intranet. Once launched, there will be a pre-assessment consisting of 10 questions to assess employees current HIPAA privacy and security knowledge. Based on the preassessment results, the number of sections the employee will have to complete will be identified. If the employee answers all the pre-assessment questions correctly, they will not have any sections assigned to them and would advance to the final assessment which consists of 20 questions. Employees must score 80% or better in order to pass and must attest to the completion of the HIPAA Privacy and Security training.
