Phil 347N Week 1 Discussion Question 2
Chamberlain University
How do you use arguments every day? Provide not less than 2
examples in the last year in which you have used critical reasoning in
an argument.
When I first looked at this question, I
began brainstorming all of the arguments
(more like debates) I have had with either
my parents, sibling, or friends. For
example, a friend of mine came to me
recently seeking advice about a man she
m
er as
is seeing. She told me that she is
concerned that his troubling past can

become relevant in the future while the
man claims his past is irrelevant to even

rs e
her to list pros & cons to see which one

outweighs the other. She seemed to be
more moved by her emotions than her
reasoning. Through this, I realized that

sometimes it may become difficult for us

to critically reason when we allow our
vi y re
emotions to get involved. Now, when the
question stated 'every day', I began to
think that there are many internal

arguments I have daily. For instance, I
had set out a rough timeline for the next

5 years of my life about a year ago, but
recently new circumstances came up
which have left that timeline almost
is
unusable. I hadn't left room for 'life' to
happen & this left me with a tough

arguments in my head for the two
choices I had placed in front of me. How I

the future for both situations & seeing
which one l& ed me with more of what I
had wanted. It's very important to take a
step back & actually think through
opposing decisions rather than making
