Human nature:
Agree –
Anarchists all have a positive view of human nature meaning that humans have universal
qualities with potential of harmony
Anarchists also consider humans contain the potential for selfishness and corruption
All anarchists blame the state and society for humans developing selfish and anti social traits
and argue humans acquired these traits from being moulded by their environment
State reinforces negative human qualities such as selfishness and corruption
Disagree –
Collectivists argue humans are altruistic and co-operative
Collectivist thinker Bakunin says “humans by their very nature, social beings”
Collectivist thinker Kropotkin states “in nature members of the same species show
sociability”
Individualists see humans as self interested and competitive
Individualist thinker Stirner believed humans fundamental core will drive an individual to do
or take anything they want and that “the individual should not be limited or controlled”
Individualists believe Humans are built for survival and protection of their own individual
State:
Agree –
Anarchism is united by its opposition of the state
Agree state is an oppressive, controlling, exploitative and corrupt system that must be
removed for the benefit of society
State brings out sexist and immoral values
