We, once more, welcome you to the Transformative Counselling Encounters module.
In this tutorial letter, we provide you with feedback on Assignment 01 and guide you on how it was
evaluated.
We have received feedback that students are enjoying Transformative Counselling Encounters
module. We have also received comments from students that they are already deriving benefit
from interacting with the experiential activities and assignments in the module and are looking
forward to applying some of the newly acquired skills and principles in their everyday lives. The

There are a few matters that this tutorial letter aims to cover, namely, to:
1. Discuss the experiential tasks and activities
2. Discuss the reflective journal
3. Provide feedback on Assignment 01.
The experiential tasks and exercises
Our module is based on the principles of experiential learning. You are given various practical
tasks to provoke your own thinking and ideas about various issues related to counselling as well
as exercises that you need to perform in order to gain mastery of content covered. These tasks
and activities are provided in the different study units in the only Study Guide for this module.
These tasks and activities are meant to engage you as a reflexive agent who is aware of self as a
potential tool for counselling. Activities and tasks are furthermore provided to hone out your skills
ranging from basic micro-skills for counselling to more enhanced understanding of how to be an
ethically responsive person. It is imperative that you work on as many of these activities as you
can manage. This is the only way of deriving full benefit from this module. By now you are aware
that counselling skills cannot be developed through reading about it only. It is in interacting with a
wide range of different people and contexts that we acquire even more refined and effective skills
and that we grow as persons and counsellors in the making.
Activities in study guide and the reflective journal
There are activities in each unit of the study guide. These include questions to think about, self-
tests, exercises to do, and drawings to interpret. They are designed to help you to draw out
important ideas and main points. Occasionally, they are designed to test how carefully you have
worked through the material. We strongly urge you to complete these activities, since they are an
