This week I really struggled with finding scholarly sources for some of the paper topics! But eventually I found some good articles and between the readings and articles I found, I learn a lot! Personally, for me, I most look forward to still having patient care. For a while I went back and forth with going to NP school and going to become a nurse manager. One day I was standing at the bedside with a family member and we were having a conversation about the patient’s father, and how he, unfortunately, wasn't doing well, and it just clicked. I became a nurse because I love helping people. Although I would still be helping people as a NM, it is a different kind of help. So, moving forward into my new role as an NP, I look most forward to continuing to help patients at the bedside. However, I do have a few concerns about role transitioning. As I went from student to RN, getting out of that "student" role was kind of challenging for me. So, I assume that the transition from RN to NP, I will struggle with getting out of the RN role and moving into the NP role of assessing and diagnosing. I think I may also struggle at first with- when to alert the Dr. of something, am I calling him for something silly? Am I being too cautious calling him for this issue? I am sure that is something I will learn and deal with as we move forward and get into clinical and become more familiar with this, but right now it is a concern I have! I was definitely surprised by the CNS role, I didn't realize they did as much as they do- I honestly didn't know much about CNS because I don't see them in my hospital really, so learning about their role and what they do was really interesting. I know for the CRNA role that you have to have critical care experience prior to schooling- but can someone answer to why this is? I know they are dealing with anesthesia and see people get intubated in ICU, but I see it on my floor too, so I am just confused on why critical care experience is required. Overall, I did learn some new interesting information about other APN roles and about the role of an NP this week! I hope you all had a great
