A3. Staging an event and reflecting on its
success

P7 We staged a virtual event, Dragons’ Den Competition in which we have created the plan for
M4
our own business, thus we have demonstrated that we have relevant management skills
(communication skills, teamwork, time management, organisational skills etc.)

P8 The success rate of our virtual event is influenced by a number of factors:

 Teamwork was definitely one of the most important aspects that ensured the success of
the event. Both the process of planning and running the event and creating the Business
Plan would have been impossible if we had not known how to be team players. I
consider that we were a successful team, because we understood and supported each
other, had open communication, had mutual trust, we were devoted to a common goal.
If we had not collaborated well as a team, there was a high risk that the event would
have been a failure,
 The event has taken place in the virtual environment, so we did not have any costs. For
a face to face event there would have been a series of expenses such as venue,
marketing, catering etc.
 A good Internet connection has increased the success of our event, as the jurors were
able to clearly understand our pitch. If the Internet connection was bad, the event
would have been severely affected. In the worst case, everything would have been a
failure.
 Another key aspect was the correct organization of our time so that the pitch was ready
before the deadline. If our management time skills would have been bad, on the day the
event took place, we would have had an incomplete presentation.

Moreover, I consider the virtual event to be a success, since we have fulfilled the aims and
the objectives we had proposed and we have received good feedback from stakeholders.

One objective we set for us was that all team members to get involved in organizing the event
and making the pitch. We shared the tasks and each of us has accomplished the part of the
Business Plan.

, Also, we proposed to finish the Business Plan before the deadline and to be sure that the
presentation is alright. Since the plan was ready two days before, we have enough time to
check our presentation and to establish the order in which we would present. This objective
was achieved.

We made Evaluation forms (six questions) which we sent to the jurors in order to find out
their opinions about our pitch. Since the feedback we received is a good one, we consider that
our presentation was a success, although there would have been other issues that could have
been improved.

The Dragons enjoyed our pitch, considering that we did a lot of research and work. The fact
that they would be willing to invest in our business proves to us that the presentation was a
real success. The fact that we paid attention to the details and we thought about all aspects of
our Business plan, as well as obtaining valuable information about the market we want to enter
and about suppliers and competitors are our biggest strengths. Another strong point was the
elaboration of a precise Marketing Strategy based on online marketing methods, discounts and
promotions.

Another aspect that ensured our success was the fact that we managed to inspire confidence
when we presented. This is a very important aspects as an entrepreneur needs to be confident
in his business idea to attract investors. No investor gets involved in a business that not even
the entrepreneur would trust that will be successful.

Our event was rated at 8/10, which is a good score, but there are aspects that could have
been improved. The PowerPoint presentation could have been better organized, containing
only the necessary elements and we to develop the idea by speaking, not reading. We could
also made improvements to the Financial Plan, giving more details about our business’ income
and loss.

Another problem we encountered was the fact that we failed to fit in time. We should have
summarized the information so that we could go through the whole Business Plan in the
presentation.

However, I considered that our event was a success in that we achieved the goals and got
food feedback, although with small improvements we could have made the presentation to be
almost perfect.
