Durante la sístole, las válvulas AV están cerradas y las aurículas se
llenan con sangre.

El comienzo de la diástole es el período de relajación isovolumétrica,
provocando la relajación ventricular.

Las válvulas AV se abren cuando la presión ventricular disminuye por
debajo de la presión auricular.

Durante la diástole, la presión más alta en las aurículas empuja la
sangre hacia los ventrículos.

El período de llenado rápido de los ventrículos se produce durante el
primer tercio de la diástole y proporciona la mayor parte del llenado
ventricular.

La contracción auricular tiene lugar durante el último tercio de la
diástole y contribuye al 25% del llenado del ventrículo. Esta
contracción se conoce como «patada auricular».

La eyección de la sangre de los ventrículos tiene lugar durante la
sístole. Los siguientes acontecimientos ocurren durante la sístole:

Al comienzo de la sístole se produce la contracción ventricular, las
válvulas A V se cierran y la presión comienza a subir en el ventrículo.
En los primeros 0,2-0,3 s de la contracción ventricular no se produce
salida de sangre (período de contracción isovolumétrica).
Isovolumétrico significa «con el mismo volumen» y se refiere al
volumen ventricular.
