, Addiction is a challenging and complex brain disease that evolves from the constant use

of a substance such as drugs or alcohol even when the user is aware of the potential detrimental

effects that these substances course to their lives (Parekh, 2017). The overwhelming use of these

substances can negatively impact an individual’s social and functional life, placing an extra

burden on their love ones. The purpose of this assignment is to explore the Levy Family video

and consider how to assess and treat clients presenting with addiction.

Episode #1

The conversation between Mr. Levy and Mrs. Levy in episode #1, asserts that they both

have different perceptions. Mr. Levy attests to drinking every night but doesn’t see themselves as

a drunk. Mr. Levy’s became very tense, irritable, and angry when Mrs. Levy indirectly referred

to them as a drunk. Mr. Levy was defiant and in denial when Mrs. Levy said that Mr. Levy was

feeling sick in the morning because they drink every night which leads to a hangover. Alcohol

addiction can negatively impact both the user and their love ones. Alcohol addiction can cause

the user to detach themselves from their children by abandoning or ignoring their welfare, get

into problems with the law, lose employment which would ultimately put their family into

financial hardship, get into frequent physical altercations with love ones, divorce their spouse,

and impede the health and happiness of the people they love (Watkins, 2020).

Episode #2

Mr. Levy’s social worker seems to have jumped straight to proposing a treatment plan

without physically meeting with their client to get to know more about their health history. Any

clinician who cares about their client’s needs would educate their clients about the available
