Describe how your personal philosophy affects your worldview and how that impacts decision making and your approach to research. What does assessing your own worldview in this way teach you about yourself? My personal philosophy, my most basic beliefs and attitudes consist mostly of Christian views and believing there is good in all people; that most of the time people mean well. Additionally, my personal philosophy carries some residual, juvenile, jaded biased views that lend me to think most people are capable of anything, specifically corrupt actions. This impacts my worldview by steering me towards certain literature where I look for the negative to impact my attempt at positive. For example, when completing recent research, I found myself phrasing my search terms in a negative tone instead of using a more positive approach. I reached out to my school librarian for literature search help and this was pointed out to me. How fitting that this is now the discussion question of the week! Knowing I am this way helps me see how I can dismiss literature I deem too unrealistic because of the positive outcomes. I struggle when I read articles that paint too pretty of a picture, even when the literature proves to be valid. Assessing my own worldview reminded me I need to continue to question my own assumptions and leave my biases behind when searching and interpreting research. If I am going to make an impact in nursing and patient outcomes, I need to go into my DNP DPI project with an open-mind and willingness to step out of my comfort zone. I would not have self-reflected and therefore become more self-aware on this matter had it not been an assignment. This is something I need to stay aware of so I can continue to grow as a student with hopes of becoming a research scholar.
