NR 512 Week 6 Discussion: HealthIT Topic of the Week and Impact on Practice+Responses

What was the HealthIT Hot Topic you selected related to your specialty? Why did you select it? How will this impact your practice? Dr. C and Class, The HealthIT topic related to the provider including advanced practitioner nurse is the evolution of telemedicine in the health care system. Telecommunication and telemedicine is the hot topic of modern medicine. Being a future family nurse practitioner my role is to diagnose and treat the patient of all age group suffering from both acute and chronic illness. I will also have a major responsibility of preventing illness and promoting health ¬ through health education and health maintenance. Health care involves the collaboration of care with multidisciplinary team member such as physician, pharmacist, psychologists, therapy, case manager, the social worker. Thus, I need to have the knowledge and skills to navigate modern technology and system involve in health care system. In order to meet the growing health care demands, the advanced practice nurses are increasingly involved in primary care services. The use of technology and telemedicine will help the provider to deliver care to the greater number of patient (Bowman, 2016). Telemedicine utilizes a number of technologies ranging from digital x-ray, phone consultation, video conference, and email to diagnose and deliver medical services (Zhang & Zhang, 2016). Telemedicine is the fundamental effort for every hospital because it offers a wide variety of clinical care, preventable health measures, and drug therapy to treat illness (Zhang & Zhang, 2016). In addition, it provides access to health care for the patient who lives in rural remote areas who has limited access to the hospital. Zhang and Zhang (2016) stated that telemedicine contributes towards remote emergency critical care in order to save lives in crucial cases. Being a future FNP, I might be a one who would utilize telehealth to deliver care to the patients remotely. It would be increasingly popular to health care industry due to cost effectiveness, extended health service in the rural area, convenience, and time-saving (Butcher, 2015).
