Unit 4 - Managing an Event

Suggested structure for Assignment 2 (P3, P4, P5, P6, M2, M3, D2)

Title: Planning an Event

Introduction
The report will cover an individual detailed event proposal explaining the purpose and
feasibility of my chosen event and will conclude with an evaluation and justification of my
plan, its advantages and disadvantages, and give an overall conclusion on how likely it is to
be successful.

Different types of event - what makes them successful?

Business- A trade show. These are run by businesses that hire stands often at an exhibition centre
or large halls to show, display, or exhibit products or services for public or private view. The
attendees at these events are usually the general public, potential customers, and the hope is to
generate sales, contacts, and to promote the goods or services provided by individual companies.
What makes them successful is that they bring sellers and buyers together and create awareness of
product/services and brand awareness.

Sporting- Watford FC regularly play football in the Championship league, organising home games
at their vicarage road stadium between 20 and 30 times per season. Crowds up to 22 thousand
spectators attend each of these games. Ticket sales generate money for the sporting club as well as
tv rights, shirts sponsorships, as well as other minor revenue streams such as the supporter's shops
and the selling of match day programmes. All of which generate brand loyalty and supporter
affiliation with the club and community spirit.

Entertainment- The O2 arena in North London is an indoor entertainment venue which regularly
hosts pop concerts for large audiences in order for the general public to see their chosen singers and
bands perform. Tickets are sold for these events to fans who pay for tickets to see their chosen
entertainers in spectacular shows which may also be televised. The more popular the performer the
more people will attend the show. Such shows are successfully marketed through social media, tv
advertising, posters, etc. Marketing them properly will also increase ticket sales.

Celebration- A wedding is when two people come together to get married, they often want a
reception where family and friends are invited for a meal and to celebrate the couple getting
married, usually there are lots of elements that need to be planned in advanced to make the
wedding successful. For example, choice of venue, choice of caterers, music, food, invitations,
wedding cake, photographer, etc. How successful the wedding is really depending on how well this is
coordinated on the day as well as planned in advanced.

Social Enterprise- is a caused driven business whose primary reason for being is to improve social
objectives and serve the common good. Better World Books Roma Boots is an example of a social
enterprise that serves the common good by giving back for every purchase made. This company has
run a campaign whereby for every pair of Roma boot sold, a brand-new pair stuffed with educational
supplies is donated to a child in need. The success of this campaign is that it gives consumers an
inspiring and tangible measurement of their impact on the impoverished Roma people. Other social
enterprises that run similar campaigns by giving back for every product purchased are; Sack cloth
