Conjunctiva-transparent mucous membrane that covers the inner surfaces of the eyelids and also extends over the sclera, forming a “pocket” under each eyelid iv. hyperopia-farsightedness, can see distant objects clearly, but close objects in distance are blurred v. lens-biconvex, avascular, transparent structure located behind iris vi. myopia-nearsightedness, can see near objects clearly, but blurry for distance objects vii. nystagmus-abnormal eye movement that may be observed as a twitching of the eye ball or described by the patient as a blurring of vision with head or eye movement viii. presbycusis-hearing loss due to aging, can result from a variety of sources ix. presbyopia-loss of accommodation, causing an inability to focus on near objects, manifestations appear around 40 x. refraction-eyes ability to bend light rays so that they fall on the retina xi. retina-innermost layer of the eye that extends and forms optic nerve xii. sclera-composed of collagen fibers meshed together to form an opaque structure commonly referred to as the “white” of the eye xiii. tinnitus-ringing in the ears (may accompany the hearing loss that results from aging process) xiv. vertigo-sense that the person or objects around the person are moving or spinning and is usually stimulated by movement of the head 1.
