➢ plasma= 55% of blood & its an Acellular component
- Water; 92% by weight
- Proteins; 7% (albumin, globulins, fibrinogen)
- Other solutes; 1% (electrolytes,waste,etc)
Cellular components:
➢ Erythrocytes= 44% of blood (hematocrit: percentage of RBCs)
➢ Buffy coat= less than 1% of blood

- leukocytes(WBCs); neutrophils,lympho,monocytes,etc)
Plasma:
● fluid matrix of the blood
● 92 % water
● 7 % proteins
● 1% dissolved: organic molecules (amino acids, glucose, lipids, and nitrogenous
wastes) ions (Na+, K+, Cl−, H+, Ca2+, and HCO− 3 ) trace elements vitamins
oxygen (O2 ) carbon dioxide (CO2 )
Proteins in plasma:
● Albumins; produced in liver= major contributors to colloid osmotic pressure of
plasma; carriers for various substances
● Globulins; liver & lymphoids=clotting factors, enzymes, antibodies, carriers for
various substances
