Title of the book: The Full Monty
Author: Wendy Holden
Based on a screenplay by Simone Beaufoy
The book has 76 Pages

Type of story:
The book is based on a movie. The movie is a comedy. The story is funny. But the story is
also about serious things. People losing their jobs, having no money and getting into
problems with their family, friends and life.
It’s realistic because many people now lose their jobs and have to make new plans to get
some money to life. But starting a group of strippers to get money is not verry realistic.

Main characters:
Gaz
He is an unemployed steel worker for three years and he needs a lot of money quickly. He
always has crazy ideas like his plan to get money by forming a group of strippers.
Nathan
He is Gaz’s son. He wants his father to be normal
The Chippendales
This is a group of male strippers from the USA
Dave
He is a man who thinks he is fat. He always worries about his weight. He is drepressed and
thinks his wife doesn’t love him
Lomper
He feels lonely and depressed and is a man with no friends. He takes care of his mother.
Gerald
He has lost his job but he is scared to tell his wife that he has lost his job. So he lies about it.

I want to be Gaz. It’s not funny to lose your job but Gaz has crazy ideas. I like crazy ideas.
Gaz also tries to fix his problems. And I like that even when fixing problems gives him
sometimes problems. But he has to be a better father to Dave and take good care of him. My
father works hard so he can take care of my sister and me and do nice things with us.
My father takes me to footbalmatches and I like that. So I can imagine that Nathan wants to
go to a match and wants his father to be normal.

The setting:
The story takes place in the early 1980s. The story is set in Sheffield. Sheffield is an industrial
town in the north of England. In this period there were not many jobs in the heavy industry.
Also not in Sheffield. All the men worked in the steel factories but then there came new
compagnies. They didn’t need so many men. A lot of men had to stay home because there
was no more work. And people who work in the factories are different than people who
work in, for example a bank! They worked with machines and not with computers.
