Case Study on Fetal Abnormality The news of fetal abnormality from a physician during what is supposed to be a routine pregnancy check up is naturally a devastating experience for expecting couples. “While normal findings at ultrasound examination have strong beneficial psychological effects on the pregnant woman and her partner, the couple is often ill prepared for bad news about the health of their unborn child in the case of abnormal findings” (Bijma, Heide, & Wildschut, 2007, p. 89). This unexpected information does not only have a tremendous impact on the expecting parents, but also the immediate family members as well. The question of morality comes into play when couples have to decide whether to terminate the pregnancy or continue along with it despite the news received. Morality is defined as the ability to distinguish right from wrong behaviors (All about, 2017). The aim of this paper on this case study: fetal abnormality on moral status is to articulate the identified moral theories exerted to dictate the moral decisions made on behalf of an abnormal fetus, illustrate the influences of the identified theories gauging the decisions of the individuals presented in the aforementioned case study, as well as to ascertain each theory that the writer agrees with including how the identified theory will establish the proposal for action. The Moral Theories Considered in the Case Study In this Fetal Abnormality case study, four individuals: Jessica, Marco (Jessica’s husband, Dr, Wilson, and Maria, Jessica’s mother) are conflicted by the news of Jessica’s fetus that has a 25% chance of possibly being born with Down syndrome. Additionally, the fetus currently has not developed any arms and with the possibility that they will never grow.
