For my work experience I researched many departments in my local area that
involved departments such as finance and marketing. I came to the conclusion
and did my year 10 work experience in a pharmacy named RJ’s Pharmacy based in
Wembley 210 Ealing Road,Middlesex, HA0 4QG. I worked in the finance and
organisation department. The employees were pharmacists in retail pharmacies.
They label and dispense prescribed medicines. The pharmacist takes their time
when getting prescriptions ready; they do this so customers could wait and look
around and purchase their goods while their prescription is getting ready. They
also provide information and advice to patients about how to use their
medication. The reason why a pharmacy would do this is to increase their sales
and receive good reviews. The pharmacy itself is a store where they sell goods
such as soaps, perfume and sanitary products.The skills which I gain from this
placement would differ because it’s different from other business. Many
customers who visited the pharmacy didn’t come with the intention of purchasing
goods but they came to collect their prescriptions.
Due to being based in a local area in Wembley employees and customers have
easy access to the store. This would be beneficial for the business as more
customers will be able to visit the store and more purchases would be made. I
was able to reach my destination by walking or taking a public bus. If I walked to
my destination it would take me around 20min however if I take the bus it would
have taken me 12min. These both transportation methods are easy and free
therefore making travelling quick and effective. This work placement local is
suitable for me because it is safe and not far from home.
My work placement has allowed me to learn employability skills. I have gained
the experience of working in an office in the finance and organising department. I
also learned expectations and demands from my employers and customers and
skills needed to be a successful employee. Working in this work placement will
help develop my understanding if this is a suitable career plan for me. Therefore,
my work placement will give me the opportunity to experience my future career.
This will prepare me and help me gain knowledge about my career path. This
opportunity benefited my career aim as I was able to learn a lot of science and
business aimed knowledge. I would use the science information for my sports
studies and the business information for my business studies. Both this
knowledge have helped me develop understanding and skills. Working in a
pharmacy would also create a good impression on my CV as it is a well paid job
and it is knowledge based which implies that I was able to educate myself and
succeed. The skills which I hoped to attain from the pharmacy are basic
, communication skills, confidence, organisation and basic IT skills. I was able to
gain good communications skills by helping customers and directing them to
needs. At my work placement communication is an important factor. Being able
to communicate with the customers in a [proper manner would benefit the
business as customers would leave good reviews and purchases would be made.
Communicating with individuals helped me boost up my confidence. Also being
confident shows pride in your work which employers would want. My work
placement has allowed me to learn organisational skills. This has allowed me to
expand my knowledge and understanding when working with numbers and
categorising medications. If I fail to be organised then it will not affect me
however it can affect the people around me and the business. Working there has
definitely helped me develop new organisational skills. Furthermore, I got the
opportunity to learn basic IT skills. I learned IT skills such as searching customers'
names and working with finance.
The skills I needed for my work placement are very similar to the skills I will
require for my future career. Before entering my future job I will need to qualify
in basic skills such as hardworking, motivated and punctual. This will be required
as all jobs employers will be
looking for these skills in an employee. My work placement will enhance my CV.
This is because my experience in the financial and organisations department will
improve my employability. It will ensure my CV is interesting to employers.
Therefore this will help me when applying for future employment because I
already have the experience of coping in a busy environment. From this I learned
the reality of working.
P1 – SECTION 2 - MY FUTURE WORK EXPERIENCE

arranged for older pupils by schools. I did a lot of research in a field which I think
I would enjoy the most and could imagine myself working in that environment. I
would like to pursue a management or marketing field. This would be suitable for
me because I have a huge interest in management and marketing and I would be
happy to learn skills by attending university and doing a business management
and marketing course. I also have the required skills such as I have a good
understanding of consumer behaviour and management/organisation. I have
come to this decision by making sure I understand what is required of me and if I
am able to cope in that certain environment.
