1. What CAD-CAM means?
CAD/CAM refers to the integration of Computer-aided design (CAD) and Computer-aided manufacturing
(CAM). CAD/CAM software is used to design and manufacture prototypes, finished products and
production runs of products using a single development tool.
2. Where is CAD-CAM used?
Autodesk CAD/CAM software is widely used by many of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers
in diverse industries, including; aerospace, automotive, construction, medical, consumer goods, and more.
3. How is CAD used in design?
CAD design is used by architects, construction managers and engineers and has replaced manual drafting.
It helps users create designs in either 2D or 3D to visualize construction and enables the development,
modification and optimization of the design process.
,4. What are disadvantages of CAD?
Work can be lost because of the sudden breakdown of computers.
Work is prone to viruses.
Work could be easily “hacked”
Time taking process to know how to operate or run the software.
High production or purchasing cost for new systems.
Time and cost of training the staff which will work on it.
5. What is projection in CAD CAM?
We can define it as “To draw a 3D image on the 2D plane we use various contour points on the objects,
plot various plane points, visual rays, straight lines, therefore, image obtained by such plot points on
various points on a single 2D plane is known as Projection”.
6. What are scaling and its types?
Scaling involves assigning quantitative values or symbols to subjective concepts or attributes. There are
four main types of scales: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Nominal scales use numbers as labels while
ordinal scales indicate ranking or order.
7. What is GD in AutoCAD?
Geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T, or sometimes GDT) is a symbolic system of annotating
part designs with descriptions of the part's shape and size, with the allowable manufactured variations from
those measurements.
8. What does GD&T do?
Defines and communicates design intent, Communicates engineering tolerances, and Helps control
variations in manufacturing processes.
,9. How to get special characters in AutoCAD?
You can include special characters and symbols by entering a control code or a Unicode string. Symbols
can be inserted in text using one of the following methods: In the In-Place Text Editor while editing or
placing text, right-click and select Symbol. Enter the control code or Unicode string.
10. What is the drawing revision process?
The term "Drawing Revision" refers to modifications that are made to a drawing after it has been signed
and issued. The first revision to a drawing takes place after the initial issue of the drawing is signed and
released for bid or construction.
13 and 15 marks question and answers
11. Explain GD & T and its symbols.
GD in CAD/CAM can refer to Generative Design or Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
Generative Design (GD)
A computer-aided design (CAD) process that uses algorithms to generate design solutions
GD is used in product and architectural design
GD allows designers to explore many design options, saving time and resources
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
A symbolic system for communicating engineering tolerances and constraints
GD&T is used on engineering drawings and 3D CAD models
GD&T helps manufacturers understand the accuracy and precision needed for each part feature
GD&T can improve quality, reduce costs, and speed up production
CAD/CAM is a combination of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing
(CAM). CAD/CAM is used to design and manufacture prototypes and finished products.
1. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) is a system for defining and communicating engineering
, tolerances. It uses a symbolic language on engineering drawings and computer-generated three-
dimensional solid models that explicitly describes nominal geometry and its allowable variation.
What is GD in AutoCAD?
Geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T, or sometimes GDT) is a symbolic system of annotating
part designs with descriptions of the part's shape and size, with the allowable manufactured variations from
those measurements.
What is the full form of GD and T?
GD&T stands for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. It's a system that helps engineers and
manufacturers control variations in manufacturing processes.
