D629: GFN2 Task 2
Professional Development Plan Template
PART I: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOAL
Consider the "Teaching Practice Self-Inventory" from Task 1 and identify a particular aspect of planning, instruction, or
assessment you want to improve by doing the following:
Professional Growth
A1. Selected Aspect for Through professional development, I hope to improve my planning by incorporating more
Improvement manipulatives, games, and project-based learning (PBL) into my math lessons. In other
words, I would like my lessons to be more hands-on.
Identify an aspect within
planning, instruction, or
assessment that you want to
improve through professional
development.
A2. Justification for I teach three math classes: one mainstream 4th-grade class, one mainstream 5th-grade
Improvement class, and one "academy" 5th-grade class. For this assignment, I will focus primarily on

accomplish mastery of foundational skills and concepts. In other words, we are not
expected to hit every state standard or follow packed pacing guides; instead, we are
meant to meet these diverse learners where they are at (of course, without compromising
rigor). I set the goal in A1 because, upon reflection, I realized I am having difficulty
breaking away from the routine I have become accustomed to with my mainstream
classes: whole-group student workbook gradual release model, break for independent
practice and small-group intervention, and repeat the following day. I am being given
ultimate flexibility with my academy class, and I am doing them a disservice by
continuing with mainstream practices when the program’s core principle is providing an
alternative education for these alternative learners. Therefore, I would like to increase the
use of manipulatives, games, and PBL in this class to make lessons more hands-on,
engaging, and better tailored to my students' unique needs. The more engaged students
are, the better they learn. Moreover, the ability to see and manipulate an object or game
related to the content would improve comprehension and retention. While my focus will
be on this academy class, I also recognize that I am free to use any strategies I learn

throughout this process to improve my instruction in my mainstream classes.
A3. Professional My overarching goal is to incorporate more manipulatives, games, and PBL into my math

1 specialist and my peer, who is a veteran math teacher. I also intend to conduct

this alternative classroom setting.
A4. Projected Goal My goal is to accomplish this goal by the end of the first quarter, which for us lands on

can be used to enrich my lessons for the remainder of the school year.

PART II: PLANNING AND RESOURCES
Consider the support resources you will use to achieve the professional development goal in part A3 and identify them by doing
the following:
Planning and Resources
B1. Job-Embedded I will receive mentoring from two sources: (1) our Title-1 specialist and (2) my teammate,
