Evidence
"Evidence" is a broad, multidisciplinary concept referring to information, facts, or objects presented to support or refute a claim, hypothesis, or conclusion. In legal contexts, evidence encompasses testimony, documents, physical objects, and forensic data admissible in court under rules of relevance, reliability, and legality. In scientific and medical contexts, evidence refers to empirical data derived from research—ranging from randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews to observational studies—used to establish causality, efficacy, and best practice (as in evidence-based medicine and evidence-based policy). In philosophy and epistemology, evidence is that which justifies belief or constitutes grounds for knowledge. In intelligence and investigative contexts, evidence includes indicators, artifacts, and corroborating information used in analysis and decision-making.
