Solidarity Contribution and Training Compensation
Ten scenario questions with full workings
Rules applied in every scenario
• Solidarity (RSTP Art. 21, Annexe 5). On a transfer during the contract, 5% of the compensation (training
compensation excluded) is deducted by the new club and shared among the clubs that trained the player. Each
season from the 12th to the 15th birthday earns 0.25%; each season from the 16th to the 23rd birthday earns 0.5%.
Payment is due within 30 days of registration.
• Training compensation (RSTP Art. 20, Annexe 4). Due on the first professional registration and on every later
transfer up to the end of the season of the 23rd birthday, for training between ages 12 and 21. Amount = years
trained × annual training cost.
• Which cost applies. Seasons from the 12th to the 15th birthday are always costed at Category 4. Later seasons
use the new club’s category. Within the EU/EEA, moving from a lower to a higher category club uses the average of
the two clubs’ costs; moving from a higher to a lower category uses the lower club’s cost.
• Other points. Part seasons are pro-rated. On a first professional registration every training club is paid for its own
years; on later transfers only the former club is paid. No training compensation is due if the former club ended the
contract without just cause.
Annual training cost Category 1 Category 2 Category 3 Category 4
(UEFA clubs)
Per year of training €90,000 €60,000 €30,000 €10,000
Figures follow FIFA’s published UEFA training costs and are revised periodically; use the current circular in practice. All scenarios use
these rates unless stated.
SCENARIO 1 Several training clubs share the contribution | RSTP Annexe 5
Facts. Club Z (Germany) signs a 26-year-old midfielder from Club Y (Belgium) for €8,000,000 during his
contract. Club A trained him for the seasons of his 12th to 15th birthdays (4 seasons) and Club B for the
seasons of his 16th, 17th and 18th birthdays (3 seasons). Other clubs, not including Club Y, trained him
for the seasons of his 19th to 23rd birthdays (5 seasons).
Question. How much solidarity contribution does Club Z deduct, how is it shared, and what does Club Y
receive?
Answer.
Item Working Amount
Total contribution 5% × €8,000,000 €400,000
Club A 4 × 0.25% = 1.0% × €8,000,000 €80,000
Club B 3 × 0.5% = 1.5% × €8,000,000 €120,000
Other clubs 5 × 0.5% = 2.5% × €8,000,000 €200,000
Paid to Club Y €8,000,000 − €400,000 €7,600,000
Check: 1.0% + 1.5% + 2.5% = 5.0%. The shares always sum to the full 5% when the player was trained in every
season from 12 to 23.

, SCENARIO 2 Transfer fee paid in instalments | RSTP Annexe 5
Facts. Club M buys a 24-year-old for €6,000,000, payable in three equal annual instalments. Club T
trained him in the seasons of his 15th and 16th birthdays.
Question. What is deducted from each instalment, and what does Club T receive in total?
Answer.
Item Working Amount
Deduction per instalment 5% × €2,000,000 €100,000
Club T per instalment (0.25% + 0.5%) = 0.75% × €2,000,000 €15,000
Selling club per instalment €2,000,000 − €100,000 €1,900,000
Club T over three instalments 3 × €15,000 €45,000
The deduction is made from each payment as it falls due. The total equals 0.75% of the full €6,000,000.
SCENARIO 3 Conditional payments | RSTP Annexe 5
Facts. Club N signs a player for a basic fee of €5,000,000 plus €1,000,000 payable if he plays 30 league
matches. Club V trained him in the seasons of his 16th and 17th birthdays. The condition is met in the
following season.
Question. What does Club V receive, and when?
Answer.
Item Working Amount
Club V’s share 2 × 0.5% = 1.0% 1.0%
On the basic fee 1.0% × €5,000,000 €50,000
On the conditional sum 1.0% × €1,000,000 €10,000
Total for Club V €50,000 + €10,000 €60,000
The contribution is calculated on all compensation actually paid. The €10,000 becomes payable only when the add-
on falls due.
