Demographic Profile
Scott County, Tennessee is among the most economically disadvantaged regions in the
state. Additionally, it is classified as one of the least healthy regions in Tennessee (County Health
Rankings, 2023). Scott County is a highly rural region located in the northeastern part of
Tennessee. The residents of this little village experience numerous health-related challenges. The
obesity rate exceeds the average. The level of unemployment is rising. A significant number of
individuals experience both physical and mental challenges in this region (County Health
Rankings, 2023).
Target Demographic/Priority Population
I aim to prioritize my efforts on assisting underprivileged adolescents residing in Scott
County, Tennessee. The proportion of children living in poverty in this area is for 29% of the
population (County Health Rankings, 2023). This can hinder access to treatment in a tiny area
like this. These adolescents are enrolled in school and may be unaware of their ability to seek
assistance for their healthcare inequalities when necessary.
Social Determinants of Health
Scott County, Tennessee provides accessible healthcare services. Nevertheless, the
percentage of those without insurance is somewhat elevated at 12% in contrast to the state's 9%
(County, 2023). The lack of insurance coverage among families in this tiny village hinders the
accessibility of healthcare services. Children in this area receive education. Scott County exhibits
a notable prevalence of children who successfully complete their high school education. The
graduation percentage is 45.1%, whilst the state of Tennessee has a rating of 32% (County,

There is a limited number of walking tracks and fitness facilities available. The prevalence of
obesity in this region indicates that adequate nutrition is not being received as it should be.
Obstacles/Barriers to Obtaining Healthcare
The obstacles preventing individuals from receiving healthcare in Scott County are
primarily attributed to the high unemployment rate and the lack of financial resources to afford
healthcare services. The rate of unemployment is fairly high at 5.1%, but the United States has a
little higher rate of 5.4% (County Health Rankings, 2023). Residents in this locality perceive
that they will be denied healthcare if they are unable to afford the cost of the services provided.
Another obstacle is the absence of adequate public transit options for the residents of this county.
Elderly and disabled individuals who lack transportation options, either because they are unable
to drive or do not own a vehicle, face difficulties in accessing healthcare services when
necessary.

Scott County, Tennessee is classified in the bottom quarter of healthiness among communities in
the state, with a health rating ranging from 0% to 25%. (County Health Rankings, 2023). The
prevalence of the cardiovascular disease is significantly elevated among both females and males
