KIRCHHOFF’S RULES
1 KIRCHHOFF’S RULES
Kirchhoff’s rules are used to analyze complex circuits.
There are two rules:
1. Junction Rule : The sum of currents flowing into a junction must be
equal to the sum of currents flowing out of that junction.
∑Iᵢₙ = ∑Iₒᵤₜ
2. Loop Rule : The sum of the potential differences around any closed
loop is zero.
∑ΔV = 0
2 APPLICATION
1.Give labels and symbols to all quantities.
2.Assign directions to the currents in each section of the circuit and
keep this the same as the rules are applied.
3.Apply the junction rule to any junction in the circuit.
4.Apply Kirchhoff’s loop rule to as many loops as needed.
5.Solve the equations for the unknown quantities.
6.Check your answers by using the original equations.
