ASSESSMENT 3 2026 ANSWERS

QUESTION 1

1.1 Differentiate between individualism and collectivism and discuss how each
can influence teamwork in the workplace. (5)

Individualism is a cultural orientation that emphasises personal independence,
individual achievement, personal rights and responsibility. In individualistic cultures,
employees may prioritise their own goals and career development and may expect
recognition for their individual contributions.

Collectivism, in contrast, emphasises group membership, cooperation, loyalty and
shared responsibility. Individuals tend to place the interests of the group, family or
organisation above their own personal interests.

These orientations can influence teamwork significantly. In an individualistic workplace,
team members may be encouraged to express independent opinions, take initiative and
compete for recognition. This can promote creativity and individual accountability but
may sometimes create competition within the team. In a collectivist workplace,
employees may emphasise cooperation, consensus and maintaining harmonious
relationships. This can strengthen teamwork but may make some employees reluctant
to openly disagree with colleagues or leaders.

1.2 Describe the dimension masculinity versus femininity, and explain how they
might shape business practices. (5)

The masculinity versus femininity dimension refers to the extent to which a society
emphasises traditionally masculine or feminine values.
