CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam SY0-701 Practice Test 7
This practice test is the seventh in a series designed to prepare candidates for the CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) certification exam, the globally recognized, vendor-neutral credential that validates the foundational skills required to perform core security functions and pursue an IT security career. The SY0-701 exam launched on November 7, 2023, replacing SY0-601, and covers five official domains: General Security Concepts (12%), Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigations (22%), Security Architecture (18%), Security Operations (28%), and Security Program Management and Oversight (20%). This practice test simulates the style, format, and difficulty of the actual exam, with questions drawn from all five domains. Topics include the CIA triad, security control categories (technical, managerial, operational, physical) and types (preventive, detective, corrective, deterrent, compensating, directive), zero trust architecture, AAA framework, cryptography (symmetric vs. asymmetric encryption, hashing, salting, digital signatures, PKI, certificates), threat actors and motivations (nation-state, APT, hacktivists, insider threats, organized crime, shadow IT), social engineering attacks (phishing, spear phishing, whaling, vishing, smishing, pretexting, baiting, tailgating, business email compromise), malware types (ransomware, trojans, worms, rootkits, spyware, keyloggers, logic bombs, fileless malware, cryptominers), application vulnerabilities (SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, buffer overflow, race conditions), network attacks (DDoS, on-path attacks, DNS poisoning, ARP poisoning, replay attacks, session hijacking), vulnerability management (CVSS, CVE, false positives vs. false negatives, zero-day vulnerabilities, patching, compensating controls), security operations (SIEM, EDR vs. XDR, monitoring, alerting, packet capture, NetFlow, dashboards), identity and access management (MFA, passwordless authentication, SSO, PAM, least privilege, RBAC), incident response phases (preparation, detection, analysis, containment, eradication, recovery, lessons learned), digital forensics (order of volatility, chain of custody, evidence preservation), risk management concepts (risk appetite, risk register, BIA, RTO, RPO, MTTR, MTBF), data protection (encryption, hashing, masking, tokenization, data classification, data states), security governance (policies, standards, procedures, guidelines), third-party risk management (vendor assessment, SLA, MOU, MSA, SOW, NDA), compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001), privacy, security awareness training, phishing simulations, audits, penetration testing, and red/blue/purple team exercises. Questions are presented in multiple-choice and performance-based formats, with detailed answer explanations that clarify why each option is correct or incorrect. The exam consists of a maximum of 90 questions with a 90-minute time limit and a passing score of 750 on a scale of 100-900. CompTIA recommends at least two years of IT administration experience with a security focus and the CompTIA Network+ certification before attempting the exam. This practice test is ideal for candidates who have completed their study of the SY0-701 objectives and want to measure their readiness, identify weak areas, and build the confidence needed to pass the real exam on their first attempt
