Trabajaremos conectores para **añadir información**, como *and, also, too, as well* e *in addition*; para **contrastar ideas**, como *but, however, although* y *even though*; y para expresar **causa y consecuencia**, como *because, because of, so* y *therefore*. También aprenderemos conectores para **ordenar ideas y acontecimientos**, como *first, then, next, after that, finally* y *while*, especialmente útiles para narraciones y descripciones. Veremos expresiones para **dar ejemplos y expresar opiniones**, como *for example, for instance, in my opinion* y *I think that*, así como conectores útiles para concluir una idea o un texto. Prestaremos especial atención a las diferencias entre conectores que suelen confundirse, especialmente **because / because of**, **although / however** y **so / because**.

CAMBRIDGE B1 PRELIMINARY (PET)
UNIDAD 15 – CONNECTORS
AND – BUT – BECAUSE – SO – ALTHOUGH – HOWEVER – ALSO – FIRST – THEN
– FINALLY

• Writing
• Speaking

En lugar de escribir:

I like travelling. It is interesting. I meet new people.

Podemos mejorar la frase:

I like travelling because it is interesting and I can meet new people.

1. AND

AND = Y
Sirve para añadir información.

I like reading and listening to music. Me gusta leer y escuchar música.

The hotel was comfortable and cheap. El hotel era cómodo y barato.

TRUCO

AND → AÑADIR

2. BUT

BUT = PERO
Sirve para expresar contraste.

I like travelling, but I don't like flying. Me gusta viajar, pero no me gusta volar.

The hotel was nice, but it was expensive. El hotel era bonito, pero era caro.

TRUCO

BUT → IDEA CONTRARIA

,3. BECAUSE

BECAUSE = PORQUE
Sirve para dar una razón.

I study English because I need it for my job.

I stayed at home because I was tired.

Me quedé en casa porque estaba cansada.

PREGUNTA

WHY? → ¿Por qué?

BECAUSE... → Porque...

Why are you learning English?

Because I want to travel.

4. SO

SO = ASÍ QUE / POR ESO
Sirve para expresar una consecuencia.

I was tired, so I went to bed early. Estaba cansada, así que me acosté temprano.

It was raining, so we stayed at home.

DIFERENCIA

BECAUSE → RAZÓN

I stayed home because it was raining.

SO → CONSECUENCIA

It was raining, so I stayed home.

, 5. ALTHOUGH

ALTHOUGH = AUNQUE
Sirve para contrastar dos ideas.

Although it was raining, we went for a walk. Aunque estaba lloviendo, fuimos a pasear.

Although the hotel was expensive, it was very good. Aunque el hotel era caro, era muy
bueno.

También podemos decir: We went for a walk although it was raining.

6. HOWEVER

HOWEVER = SIN EMBARGO
También expresa contraste.

The hotel was expensive. However, it was very comfortable. El hotel era caro. Sin embargo,
era muy cómodo.

I was tired. However, I finished my homework.Estaba cansada. Sin embargo, terminé mis
deberes.

However, frase.

7. BUT – ALTHOUGH – HOWEVER

• BUT

I was tired, but I went out. Estaba cansada, pero salí.

• ALTHOUGH

Although I was tired, I went out. Aunque estaba cansada, salí.

• HOWEVER

I was tired. However, I went out. Estaba cansada. Sin embargo, salí.

MUY IMPORTANTE

No utilices juntos:

Although I was tired, but I went out.

Utilizamos uno u otro:

Although I was tired, I went out.

I was tired, but I went out.
