UNIDAD 13 – REPORTED SPEECH
ESTILO INDIRECTO
El Reported Speech se utiliza para contar lo que otra persona ha dicho.
1. DIRECT SPEECH VS REPORTED SPEECH
• DIRECT SPEECH
Repetimos exactamente las palabras de una persona.
Anna said:
“I am tired.”
Anna dijo: «Estoy cansada».
• REPORTED SPEECH
Contamos lo que dijo, sin repetir exactamente sus palabras.
Anna said that she was tired.
Anna dijo que estaba cansada.
TRUCO
DIRECT SPEECH → lo que dijo exactamente.
REPORTED SPEECH → contamos lo que dijo.
2. SAID
Una estructura muy frecuente es:
SUBJECT + SAID + (THAT) + FRASE
Peter said that he was tired.
Peter dijo que estaba cansado.
She said that she liked the film.
Ella dijo que le gustaba la película.
THAT puede omitirse:
She said she was tired.
También es correcto.
, 3. CAMBIO DE PRONOMBRES
Tenemos que adaptar los pronombres dependiendo de quién habla.
• DIRECT SPEECH
Mary said:
“I am tired.”
• REPORTED SPEECH
Mary said that she was tired. I → SHE
Otro ejemplo:
Peter said:
“I like my job.” → Peter said that he liked his job.
Por tanto, no hay que traducir mecánicamente. Hay que pensar: ¿Quién dijo la frase?
4. CAMBIO DE TIEMPOS VERBALES
Cuando utilizamos said en pasado, normalmente el tiempo verbal retrocede.
PRESENT SIMPLE → PAST SIMPLE
“I work in London.” → She said that she worked in London.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS → PAST CONTINUOUS
“I am studying.” → She said that she was studying.
PAST SIMPLE → PAST PERFECT
“I visited London.”→ She said that she had visited London.
Para B1 es suficiente reconocer esta transformación.
PRESENT PERFECT → PAST PERFECT
“I have finished.” → He said that he had finished.
WILL → WOULD
“I will call you.” → She said that she would call me.
CAN → COULD
“I can swim.” → He said that he could swim.
