Cell Cycle - -Stages a cell goes through during its life span, including interphase, mitosis
and cytokinesis (controlled by enzymes called cyclins)
cell division - -the process in reproduction and growth by which a cell divides to form 2
daughter cells
DNA - -Deoxyribonucleic Acid, a complex molecule containing the genetic information
that makes up the chromosomes.
chromatin - -granular material visible within the nucleus; made of DNA tightly coiled
around proteins
chromosome - -condensed packages of genetic material formed from chromatin as a cell
prepares to divide
chromatid - -one of two identical "sister" parts of a duplicated chromosome
mitosis - -part of cell division in which the nucleus divides into nuclei containing the
SAME # of chromosomes (DOES NOT INCLUDE INTERPHASE or cytokinesis)
Interphase - -period of the cell cycle between cell divisions in which the cell grows,
includes G1, S, and G2, longest period of cell cycle
Prophase - -1st phase of mitosis, Chromosomes become visible, nuclear envelop
dissolves, spindle forms
