National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Core Competencies
National organization of nurse practitioner faculties (NONPF) core competencies are the
basic requirements that help the nurse practitioners (NPs) offer quality care in different areas.
The competencies cover important determinants that include scientific basis, leadership, ethics
and independent practice that play significant roles in developing the capacity of an NP in
providing patient-centered care (Lahiguera et al., 2024). This assignment will reflect on how my
PMHNP program has prepared me to attain each of these competencies, especially in the field of
psychiatric care. The assignment will further present my proposal on how I intend to participate
in social change by promoting mental health awareness and mention legislative and advocacy
actions.

Practice
Scientific Foundations
Scientific foundations can be defined as the combination of scientific knowledge, such as
research, theories, and clinical evidence, to aid in effective decision-making and patient care.
During the program, I have learned how to integrate principles of science into psychiatric
practice so that I can make sound clinical decisions (Stein et al., 2022). The program placed an
emphasis on evidence-based practice, which included cognitive-behavioral therapy and
pharmacotherapy when treating multiple mental health conditions, including depression and
anxiety. Clinical placements also reinforced my knowledge and skills as I got a chance to
translate theoretical knowledge into practical practice, including the treatment of patients with
scientifically approved intervention plans.
