, INC3701 ASSIGNMENT 6
PORTFOLIO - SEMESTER 2 | DUE DATE: 30 September 2026
INTRODUCTION
School is not only about passing tests and learning from textbooks. A learner’s
experience at school can also shape how they see themselves and how comfortable they
feel around others. Sometimes, a learner may know the work but still feel left out
because they do not feel noticed or understood.
My own experiences have made me realise how important it is for learners to feel that
they belong. A quiet learner can easily be overlooked in a busy classroom. This does not
mean that the learner has nothing to say or contribute. It shows why teachers need to
pay attention to the different ways learners participate.
Inclusive education focuses on making sure that learners are not pushed aside because
they learn differently, have a disability, or come from a different background. Learners
do not all need the same type of support. Some may need extra explanations, while
others may need changes to the classroom environment or learning activities.
The teacher plays a major part in creating an inclusive classroom. A teacher needs to
notice when something is stopping a learner from participating. The response should
not always be to blame the learner. Sometimes, the way the lesson is organised can be
part of the problem.
This portfolio explores different issues connected to inclusive education. It looks at
learning difficulties and how teachers can respond to them. It also considers the role of
parents and communities in supporting learners. The portfolio further discusses
Ubuntu and the values that can help learners with disabilities feel respected and
included.
