, INTRODUCTION
I have always believed that the lessons that have the greatest impact are not only the ones
taught in textbooks, but also the ones that stay with us long after we leave the classroom. I
remember my own experience as a learner, sitting quietly at the back of the classroom and
feeling as though I was almost invisible. I rarely raised my hand or asked questions.
Although I was physically present in class, I often felt disconnected from what was
happening around me. None of my teachers asked why I was so quiet or noticed that I was
struggling. As a result, I felt as though I simply passed through the education system
without being properly seen or understood. This experience has strongly influenced the way
I view education today. It has also encouraged me to become the kind of teacher who pays
attention to learners who may easily be overlooked. For this reason, inclusion has become
an important focus of this portfolio.
Inclusive education is not simply about placing learners with disabilities in mainstream
classrooms. It involves creating school environments where every learner feels accepted,
respected and valued. Inclusion means recognising that learners have different needs,
backgrounds, abilities and experiences. It requires teachers to pay attention to both the
learners who speak loudly and those who remain quiet. It also means looking beyond a
learner's behaviour and trying to understand what may be affecting them.
Barriers to learning can take many different forms. Some are easy to see, such as physical
disabilities that may require a wheelchair or hearing aid. However, other barriers are less
visible. Learners may experience hunger, anxiety, trauma, language difficulties, poverty or
other personal challenges that affect their ability to participate fully in education. These
barriers can have a significant impact on learning and development. Therefore, creating an
inclusive education system requires teachers and schools to identify these challenges and
provide appropriate support.
This portfolio consists of four tasks that explore different aspects of inclusive education. The
first task considers how teachers can understand and respond to difficulties experienced by
